Project Details

SR 710 / Beeline Highway Reconstruction & SR 91 / Florida’s Turnpike

Project Company: TMS

Project Scale: $129M contract, 3.1 miles of corridor coverage

Florida

Project  Overview

Project Cost: $129M

Client

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 4

Scope

  • 7,000LF Retaining Wall (Avg 8’ High)
  • 15,500LF Coping/Junction Slab
  • 7,000LF 8’ Soundwall
  • 12,000LF Median Barrier Including Short And Tall Grade-Separations
  • 10,500LF Gravity Wall (Avg 5.5’ High)

Project Highlights

  • Engineered a Breakthrough Keyway System that doubled production rates for retaining walls—streamlining installation while maintaining structural integrity.
  • Utilized a Proprietary, Patented Slipforming Process for Coping/Junction Slabs, cutting construction time and minimizing on-site disruptions.
  • Introduced a Space-Saving Slipforming Method for 8-foot Soundwalls that reduced the required work zone by more than 50%, enabling safer, more efficient operations in constrained corridors.
  • Designed and Implemented an Innovative Alternative Reinforcement Solution that doubled installation speed without compromising performance, delivering substantial schedule and cost savings.
  • Accelerated Median Barrier Construction by combining our Patented Slipforming Process with the alternative reinforcement innovation, achieving faster production and improved traffic management.
  • Optimized and Upgraded Existing Equipment through internally-engineered modifications, reducing labor demands and improving efficiency for gravity wall pours.

Major Benefits & Impacts

Improved Traffic Flow

  • An Innovative at grade intersection configuration, Partial Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI) at the intersection of SR 710 and Northlake Blvd. to provide more green time for left turn movement.
  • Replacement of the Florida’s Turnpike bridge over SR 710 to provide 5 lanes in each direction, with two inside lanes being managed lanes, two lanes being general purpose lanes, and outside lane being an auxiliary lane to facilitate hurricane evacuation.

Community Enhancements

  • 8’ Soundwall construction to mitigate traffic noise for neighboring communities.

Safety Enhancements

  • Upgrading Road-Side barriers to MASH TL-4 level
