- Construction of 11 All-Electronic Tolling Sites along Turnpike Mainline
- Demo and Roadway Reconstruction of 19 existing toll plazas
- 40 traffic shifts implemented to facilitate demo and reconstruction of project sites.
- Installation of 45 Miles of Fiber optic Cable
- Installation of 22 Dynamic Messaging Signs

Project Highlights
- TMS achieved $4,500,000 maximum incentive bonus for completing All Electronic Tolling Scope 100 days prior to the 2-year interim completion deadline.
- Project Team initiated and implemented 9 different Cost Savings Initiatives (CSI’s) totaling $8.3M in total savings to the Turnpike and resulting in $3.7M in bonus payments to TMS.
- Project Team proposed and implemented $8.7M in scope deletions, eliminating unnecessary work and resulting in $1.2M in bonus payments to TMS.
- The project received a perfect Contractor’s Performance Rating (CPPR) of 100.
Major Benefits & Impacts
Improved Traffic Flow & Reduced Congestion
- Without toll booths requiring vehicles to slow down or stop, traffic can pass under toll gantries at highway speeds (free flow).
- Eliminating queueing and merging conflicts around plazas reduces bottlenecks, especially during peak hours or holiday travel.
Safety Enhancements
- Removing the need for drivers to switch lanes, brake, or accelerate near toll booths reduces crash risk associated with toll plazas.
- Fewer conflicts between cash-paying and electronic paying users in mixed toll lanes.
- Toll collection personnel are no longer required to work in close proximity to active traffic lanes, enhancing worker safety.
